In the 1950's Bert Greeves was making the Greeves motorcycle; which was mainly
all Aluminium (note the spelling!).
The barrel (and the most of the rest)were made from LM6 silicon-aluminium alloy
with no liners.
Owned one, raced it, never needed a rebore and never broke it <G>
He was also the designer and manufacturer of the Invacar -- the first one was
made specifically for his invalid brother,,
Just thought you'd might like to know <g>

The problems with the Vega aluminum engine wasn't the aluminum
cylinders. They had a high silicon content and were etched so the
silicon (harder than iron) was riding on the rings.
