Pardon me, but it seems to me that if you know in advance what the
restrictions are for using special plates, you ought not complain when you
get caught intentionally violating those restrictions.
I have collector plates on two of my cars. Those plates require that the
car be absolutely stock. One is (kind of) stock and one isn't at all. If I
get caught, I'm not going to bitch about it because I am knowingly violating
the law and taking my chances on getting caught. These plates require a
one-time fee equal to three years of normal plates and can be used forever
on that fee. How can I complain?
Same thing with parking on the street in front of my office. There is a two
hour time limit. I park there every day for at least two periods greater
than two hours. I could park in a lot a block and a half away for $20 a
month, but I prefer to take my chances. Two or three times a year I get an
$11 parking ticket. Should I bitch? Hell, no!
I speed every single day I drive. I've had two speeding tickets in 40 years
of driving. Am I gonna complain if I get caught?
Get real, guys.

Well now you are hearing about it.
A guy I know who owns a 60's Volvo Amazon has collector plates and was
pulled over by our city of Snoqualmie police and hassled about driving it to
work. He lives about 8 blocks from his work at the Snoqualmie Brewery
taproom.
He was told he would be fined if caught doing it again.
Apparently our fair city needs more money.
I told him to join a car club and then whip out a membership card and tell
the police he's on official club business, driving for pleasure, to a club
meeting or whatever.
There's no end to the trouble that's caused by politicians seeking pay
raises.

Dave,
I know a lot of people here in Washington with collector plates and
have never herd of any one being pulled over and questioned about the limits
of there license. I have a Bugeye and found a 1960 plate at a swap meet BES
609. This will be my first full summer of driving so I may find out about
the
limitations.
