This is an oft heard discussion at our house. Personally, I do not like the 5.1
systems. Why, you might ask. You get surround sound, and are able to tell which
side of the room the person talking is on. Yes, and then I want to listen to
Pink Floyd's Dark side of the Moon at 11 ;-) and those tiny speakers just flat
suck the sound out of the room. Did you ever try to listen to the live version
of "Cities On FLame" on a set of those compromised boxes??

So I have a pair of 42" tall Infiniti speakers with a huge dynamic range. (Not
the besest speakers, but I do live on a budget)The subtle sounds of Led Zepplin
have never been so sweet. You can even hear Mick whisper. All music, except
things like Quadrophenia are recorded for 2 channel sound, so what good is 5
tiny widdle bitty speakers with a 1000 watt Yamaha amp?? (My neighbors love me
when the wife is out of town ;-) Someday I will ad a B channel set.

No, give me speakers for MUSIC. The TV sounds OK to me from the same speakers,
on those few occasions it's on.

Larry

OK, maybe I need a 5.1 for the movies my wife wants to watch and the Infinii's
for me ;-) The Yamaha can handle it.
