Hi Kirk,

The crunching you describe shifting into second is usually from a worn  
baulk ring. I doubt you could have caused the extra wear from your  
recent TO bearing issue, but I suppose it's possible if it was  
marginal already. 2nd is usually the first to go. The other issue  
could be that you are not getting enough free play for the clutch and  
you are still marginally engaged when you shift. If the second gear  
baulk ring is marginal, it could behave like this when shifting to  
second, but not the other gears,

If you are interested in doing a 5 speed swap, I will have kits  
available and am already doing the flywheel conversions for the Datsun  
clutch for a couple of people. If you want to get your flywheel done  
now, I could include you in the batch I'm getting together now. I also  
have one gearbox available for sale.
