If anyone wants quality SU parts, they would be best off to go directly to
the source: the Skinners Union people themselves, now Burlen Fuel Systems
in Salisbury, England. Many years ago, they bought out the entire SU
company lot, stock and barrel. That included not only the NOS, but all of
the tooling as well. In fact, when I was given a tour of the place, they
had some little old men I would have sworn were hired by old George Herbert
Skinner, himself. In was like stepping back in time to see them in their
white shirts, neckties and smocks working on the benches, doing the
craftsman-like work that only human hands can give you. (Burlen is also the
inheritors of the Weber, Zenith, Stromberg, Solex and AMAL companies.)
They offer the SU Catalogue, Workshop Manual, SU Needle Profile Chart and SU
Carburetters Tuning Tips and Techniques. When I bought mine, it was loaded
with #s off coupons, although I do not know if it is still their practice.

When getting my Bugeye ready for the BusterCluster, I took the SUs to
Burlen, and they did a beautiful restoration for a reasonable price. They
have not leaked a drop of gas or needed any further tuning since. (Of
course, Franks hernia needed some tuning.)
If anyone is interested, Burlen and SU can be found at:

Subject: Bugeye/Frogeye Club..... SU needles
Something I just wanted to pass on:
I recently was playing with my BT7, rebuilt the carbs, set valves, timing
did all the normal stuff but it would just not idle down correctly. I double
checked everything, used my multi synch setup good synch equal flow, had the
color perfect with color tune...ran awesome, but again wouldnt idle down. I
pulled the carbs back off...stripped them down and pulled the needles..keep
in mind they are brand new, looked perfect, clearly marked CV....figured had
to be the needles or something in that area of the carbs by the way they
were adjusting so I ordered a new kit and pair of needles from SU. The new
needles arrived clearly stamped CV as well and I compared, the new needles
were just shy of 5/16" longer then the old (new) ones. What a difference,
anyone run into this issue? I have already notified the original supplier
and have him checking his inventory...Nick C.
