I don't remember ever detaching the rear of the drive shaft from the diff.
Of course, I don't remember much. :)
I do remember getting my hand jammed between the gearbox and the side of the
gearshift hole though when the gearbox slid back. I was alone and was
feeling a bit silly, but I did manage to reach a screwdriver and pry it back
enough. It could have been a long night. :)

Last two times I've done it by myself. Disconnect the drive shaft from the
diff. Once the end of the tranny is inside the mouth of the tunnel, reach in
through the shifter hole and put the yoke into the back of the tranny. It
won't come out as you slide the lump in the rest of the way.
