Motor is out, tranny split for exam/rebuild and brake fluid leak mess all
sanded and primered for paint repair. If the replacement pistons show up this
week, I could have the car ready for THIS June. I gotta slow down or the
fresh rebuild will be old and worn come the rendezvous next year. I was
actually goint to repaint the entire engine compartment and then I realized
that it would be covered with thousands of miles of road dirt when I get to
Missouri anyway, so why bother? Its a driver and there's not much point
tarting it up all that much.
On the mechanical side, I cut all the pieces for a new turbo manifold and
found a shop that will do a pro TIG job on it. After years of frequent
cracking due to poor welding, maybe this manifold will hold up a bit better.
I'll also drop a brace to the fuel pump bolt holes on the block to take some
of the turbo's weight off the manifold.
This time around I'm going to line the entire inside of the tub with that
adhesive backed foil lined thin foam insulation unless someone can tell me a
horror story that changes my mind.
