Hello Lester,
change over to a CRANE or Pertronix unit.. and NEVER F*** with
the points again.
there are arguments about the Pertronix unit and its failures,
vs NO ONE i've heard about or talked to has had a CRANE unit
fail.. .. my pertronix unit DID.. well the wiring wasn't
properly routed INSIDE the dizzy. the insulation rubbed the
rotor and the wiring failed tho the electronics themselves were
good (i presume).. took more care putting in the CRANE unit
wiring.. but i've still heard that pertronix will fail after
about 2 -> 5 years, where CRANES keep going (i've been told)
for well over 250,000 miles. .. hmmmmmm..
anyway, make the change and don't look back!
no more points wear, so no change in performance.. ever.
no wear on the dizzy shaft from rubbing points, so less need to
get THAT rebuilt!
no points FLOAT at high rpm
higher intensity spark (some people, i've heard even open up
the spark plug gap)
STABLE timing...
no condenser failure!]
DO IT!
