Yep....
MiniMania is a good article. Stay off the
highway, no continuous hi rpm, and no
low rpm "lugging" or "loading" of the motor in the higher gears....if in doubt,
downshift. Vary the rpms and don't hold any consistant rpms during the first
500-1000 miles and do change the oil and filter after the initial run, first
500 miles and at 1,000 miles.
You are changing the oil to eliminate any
metal contamination as there will be some
as the parts "break-in" against one another.
Don't forget at 500 miles to retorque the
cyllinder head after which you will need
to reset valve clearances to proper spec.
And keep the idle rpm "up" for the first
500 miles at least to ensure oil lubrication
(by splash effect) to the cylinder walls at
idle speed (which you should avoid as much
as possible, except for initial warm-up of
a few minutes or so). 1,000rpm or even a
little higher is just fine. Easier on the cam,
too.
