Clayton, You are right of course, a "coupe" is a cup or salad bowl. But, being French and a flexible language, coupe also means to cut, or cut down. A Coupe is a cut - down, or shortened, roof line to the standard Saloon model. Of course, you may drive around in a salad bowl.
