Jim is right, the modified MGB manifold is a good option.  I would add that
there is no need to join the sawed halves of the manifold in any
sophisticated or permanent manner.  The pipe between the two carbs is just a
'balancer' that sees virtually no pressure or serious suction.  Once you
have cut out the necessary piece, the halves can be assembled separately on
the head and simple piece of duct tape is all the seal that will be
required.  Alternatively, you can slip a one inch section of a bicycle inner
tube (use a small road tube 27"x1 or 700c x 20) over one side and pull it
over the junction after the two halves are mounted and then put a hose clamp
over the rubber covered junction and tighten it down.  Remember, we not just
tight, we lazy too.
