Thanks for all the answers... I bought the MS "Streets & Trips", and will
purchase a GPS soon. If I buy a radar detector, It will be the Valentine 1.
Nope... did not get busted for speeding yesterday... but I went though a
little community on the way to the mountains- speed is 55 mph before and
after, 25 mph in "town"- a few buildings on both sides of the very wide road
for half a mile at most, no side streets, and hardly any traffic - but a
cop, sitting at the 25 mph speed sign with a radar on, could ticket EVERY
vehicle going through "town", I am sure! He would have got me as I was still
at 35 mph past the sign. It's to avoid being nabbed at such potential speed
traps I am thinking of buying the radar detector- and I realize I stand no
chance if the cop is using Laser.
Talking about tickets... I know you don't have to go that fast to get one.
The only ticket I ever got was on the last day of August 1984, when I was on
vacation in the US from Europe- a New Mexico cop busted me, Sunday around 7
AM, on a deserted highway past Silver City for doing 61 mph (the blanket
speed limit was 55 mph at the time)- beautiful weather, straight road, and I
was driving a near-new rental car. I was driving safely. I did not even
realize I was speeding, and did not slow down when I saw the cop come in the
other direction. That ticket taught me cops sometimes stop speeders to make
money for the state, not for "road safety"!
