We have a place near where I live called Grease Monkey, you watch them do the
oil change, and I never let them replace anything else. They did once say
that my minivan (I know, not very cool, but practical for a track coach)
needed new tranny fluid right after the dealer had put in a new tranny, under
warranty. I gently told them not really a problem and just took the oil
change. I have a good friend who works for Shell in their oil dept, he says
that 7000 miles oil changes are fine, especially for the bigger, slower
turning engines here in the U.S. This was verified by a study done with NYC
taxi cabs that had the oil changed at 3000, 5000, 7000, and 10000 miles. No
real difference was detected in the wear in the engines after 150,000 miles.
Hmmm are the oil companies just trying to sell more oil???? My minivan went
130000 miles having the oil changed between 5000 and 7000 miles before I got
tired of the manual windows and got a new one.
