Frank,
I'm laughing and crying at the same time. You've expressed so much of what
I scratch my head about everyday.
I was in downtown San Francisco the other day for a farewell/graduation
ceremony for my teenage daughter's summer intership program.
I haven't been downtown for quite some time and found myself surrounded by
people who were completely isolated from their surroundings via some
electronic gadgetry. Every other person I saw was either on a cell phone,
had an earpiece dangling from their ear or else had headphones on listening
to music or perhaps some motivational tape. Nothing new of course, we all
see this everyday, but I guess it was density and close proximity of people
on this absolutely beautiful sunny day that made the whole scene so surreal.
Ater the ceremony, when we were returning home together, I made the mistake
of trying to share my moment with my daughter... her reply... "yeah, so...
what's your point?"
Thanks for putting down your thoughts Frank... nice to know I have some
"company" out there. I'm going to print this up and hang it somewhere, even
if I may be the only one around here to get it.
