You guys are good!! Obviously it's the float bowl, and probably the angle. The carb is an HS-4, and I've tried both the left and right carb, with the same effect - stalls on heavy braking, though changing the axis of the float did help last year. I didn't drive the car to work today (had to drop my nephew off at the airport with all of his bags), but I will check the angle of the float bowl as soon as I get home! thanks!!
