Either they're big enough to have the effect I described (turbulence -
therefore increased drag, reduced flow at high rev/high flow rates) or
they're not big enough to make any difference - therefore snake oil.
In order to have any effect, they would have to create turbulence at low
engine speeds, as Crash's formula shows, drag increases exponentially as
velocity increases, since the flow rate will multiply 3 to 5 times between
low and high revs, there can be no minimal intrusion (like only 1/8") that
gives a positive effect without drastically affecting the top end (and
probably mid range too)
Still think it's snake oil - no that's unfair. If you want to get more power
at tickover to tickover x 1.5 and don't care about the revs over about 1500,
it'll do what it claims (maybe)
