take a candle or a block of parafin.. and rub the
zipper! it should coat the metal and fill the holes

Absolutely it will work, or you can use something less esoteric like butter,
engine oil, WD40, or even soap. Use the towel though. If it does some
real raining, the towel will make things a lot drier.
