Tube Shock Conversion?

I recently purchased a 74 midget.  I don't drive it much now, because the
front end is too loose to drive safely.

Over the winter, I plan to rebuild the suspension, steering linkage, etc.  I
am considering upgrading all the lever shocks with tube shock conversion kits.
I am sure this has been discussed before, but pros and cons for this upgrade
would be appreciated.

Mostly, does tube shock conversion greatly improve the handling?
