Daniel,
If you look up the torque requirements of the same nut on the MGB you
will find that the tightening specs say 180 lb/ft. and it is the same
thickness as the S/M nut. That is the closest application I could
find. You are free to draw your own conclusions, but I will maintain
that " Really Tight " is good enough.

would the axle nut need to be really high - the fronts aren't and the
hub fit
on the axle casing is tight anyway.  The wheel nuts aren't 140lbs or
180lb
I'm not saying I'm right or anything, I just think 180 is on the high
side -
especially given the low looking spec of the nut (it is thin).

 low
