RUNAWAY CLASSIC CAR CRASHES ON SAUSALITO HILL
A Tiburon woman was hurt after smashing her classic Austin Healey sports
car into a Sausalito carport, firefighters said.
The crash occurred at 2:23 p.m., when the woman lost control of the car
while driving down Sausalito Boulevard. Sausalito fire Capt. Jerry Recor
said the woman's brakes apparently failed and she was going too fast to
make the turn at Spencer Avenue.
The car smashed into the carport at 694 Sausalito Blvd., taking out its
supports and causing the roof to "pancake" on top of two other cars, Recor
said.
Paramedics took the 42-year-old woman to Marin General Hospital for minor
facial injuries. Her Austin Healey, a British car produced only from
1954-1967, was destroyed.
