My Sprite is functioning again! Thanks to all who helped with advice and parts.
To refresh your memories, this is a '65 Mk3 with a newly rebuilt 1275
and a Rivergate Datsun 5 speed conversion. With plugs out, I spun up
the engine to see if I got pressure. I had to release air from the
gauge line by loosening the swage nut on the back of the gauge. After
tightening, spinning the engine with the starter gave me 80 psi. I
buttoned everything up, added plugs, started it, fired right up, ran
it for about 20 minutes, then went around the neighborhood sans
interior and bonnet (used a boat seat cushion for a seat). All the
gears work and there is quite a bit of power (kept it below 3k rpm,
though). After cool down I retorqued the head and that was it!
Hopefully this weekend I can get it into a more drivable state.
Pix to follow as soon as I figure out how to download from my wife's
new digital camera.
Thanks again,
Jeff
