First off let me say that this is only my second day back on the list after
a very lengthy absence. Being the new guy I'm certainly not going to
contradict the experts and no doubt a rust-free tub is always the best way
to go in a perfect world.
If your heart is set on doing this car, don't despair. The work is very
do-able (by a competent DIYer, with access to the right tools). For the
amount of work (and time) involved, it doesn't make sense not to take an
extra few hours and put the motor back in. That doesn't mean you have to
keep it in for the work. Put it in, set your lines, weld 2x2 angle iron
supports between the door openings, then remove your motor. Some may think
this overkill, but for the little amount of time involved, why not. Also,
if you haven't already, get the Lindsay Porter book!! Resistance type spot
welders work excellent for rockers, obviously a mig for everything else
(both rentable items if you don't own).
The advice I give is based on the work that I've done and successful results
achieved. Opinions will vary. If much of this is redundant, I apologize -

Is this possible? with the engine out of the vehicle can the floors,inner
outer rockers, hinge pillars be replaced and get good lines without the
engine being in. Or should I put the engine in before I weld the A pillars

permanently? If the engine is out will the weight when installed change the
lines???????
