I recently began helping (???) my nephew work on a '73 1275 engine. It
runs, but not very well. I have some experience with the SU carbs and
equalizing them with a Unisyn. My problem is that I can't seem to get
the rear carb to have any vacuum unless the idle screw is cranked down to
about 3500 rpm. The front carb has good vacuum at all rpm's.
I have run compression tests, and all cylinders are around 140-150
pounds. A vacuum gauge hooked to the intake manifold at the vacuum
advance nipple shows good draw, but it bounces around a lot. Are the two
things connected? The PO said he put a carb kit in so I'm a little
concerned as to whether he might have done something wrong.
Any help you can give will be appreciated.
