How about gluing two bands together with about an inch of overlap.
You could try using PVC cement, modeling glue, or a silicone caulk.
Something like a PVC cement that would melt the band a bit might
work well.  You would then have one wide band.  Just an idea and
I never tried this, not even on TV.
