You must have really lucked out! My experience here was just the opposite. I 
bought my bugeye as a rolling tub in '93 also, and it wasn't registered at the 
time. I finally got around to going to the DMV to  reregister it in 95, and 
when 
I told the clerk that it was a non-running vehicle, they just kind of look at 
me 
with that sort of empty look that only a DMV clerk can have. Needless to say, I 
was charged for normal registration, and to top it off, every subsequent year 
after that, I was never sent a renewal notice, and I would have to go back to 
the DMV each year, and update the registration (late of course) in person. They 
would usually waive the late fee, but every year it was the same drill, and 
every year, I told them that it was non-operational. I think I've finally got 
it 
all straightened out ( I'll find out if I get a renewal notice), but my luck 
with the DMV has NOT been positive.
