The secret is in the VTEC system. Essentially the VTEC systems runs permits
the use of two cam profiles - a shopping trip profile and a full race profile
(or thereabouts). At a preset rpm the VTEC system switches from the shopping
profile to the full race profile. The engine note hardens and you get a push
back in the seats while the engine pulls to a redlined 8K or whatever. Most
half decent 2 litre engines can be race tuned to 240bhp the trick is getting
them to run around town and this is what the VTEC permits.
