If it's timing chain at idle it'll sound like your timing case is full of
marbles. Under acceleration the noise will diminish because all the
'snatch' is taken out of the engine. The noise will normally then reappear
on the overrun but please, as others have suggested, look for the easy
answer first.

I'll try again. My '66 Sprite enigne is making a high pitched tinkling
noise
on over run. It sounds a litle like engine ping, I can't hear it under
accelleration or at speed, probably because of the exhaust noise, but is
easy
to hear after letting off the gas.
It's doesn't sound like small end or big end rod knock, is the same speed
and
frequency as valve train noise. Can someone help me out on whether this
sounds like a bad Timing chain? or maybe a valve guide? Any other
suggestions? Thanks for the help.
