With a 'taller' diff ratio while the rpm may drop for any given road speed
which is desirable in 4th gear it has the negative effect of widening the
effective ratios in the box. In practice what happens is that the revs drop
really low on each gear change (unless you really rev it through the gears)
and acceleration generally is slower.
The car will cope with pulling away in 1st gear on the 3.5 diff.
A far better bet is to fit a 5 speed gearbox.
