Thanx Paul for your response. I do have number one on your list, but as I
just finished pulling, degreasing, regasketing, and reinstalling the motor,
and degreasing, sandblasting and painting the engine compartment while motor
out, I was concerned that this breather pipe may force out oil vapors, oil
residue, or even oil out of the motor onto my cleanup job, or if has a
vacuum, suck dust and dirt into the motor.
Any thought upon filtering or modifications to this downtube?

1098 engines had several diferent systems on them.
1. A breather pipe going essentially straight down from the front lifter
cover.
2. A breather pipe that made a loop upwards before going straight down.
3. An oil condensor coming out of the front lifter cover that had a hose
going to a PCValve on the intake manifold.
Sounds like you have the first one above.
Paul
