I was able to break the pulley loose, but now it runs into the cross-member
before comes off the crank. Am I supposed to jack the engine up high enough
for the pulley to clear the cross member? That would be several inches,
which seems like a lot given that the engine is still connected to the
tranny! Can the engine be jacked up that much without disconnecting the
tranny or the rear mounts?
In desperation,
Jeff

Original message:
I'm in the midst of replacing the front crank seal on my 1275. I have
gotten the radiator out, jacked up the engine a couple of inches, and
gotten the big bolt out of the pulley/crank. Now, I can't get the pulley
off! Gear pullers won't fit because the cross-member is in the way. Can I
just pry the heck out of the back of the pulley and the face of the timing
chain cover, or will this damage the t/cover?
TIA,
Jeff
