On my 77 Midget, 1500cc the mechanical fuel pump has a screen on the
inlet side. The top of the pump is held on with one bolt through the
center. If you take that cover off you will find a screen inside. On
my pump the top cover is where one (I think it is only one) of the
fuel lines attach. YMMV. Just don't hose up the gasket or you will
have to make a new one. I also have filter between the pump and the
carbs.
