I have used automobile polishing compound to re-finish watch crystals and
that worked very well, I have not tried it, but I expect that Polishing
compound, (Not rubbing compound) will work as well.

Just thought I'd share this with the list. About a month ago
I polished the rear and quarter windows of my soft top with a
silver polishing compound I found under the sink.
The windows were very hard to see through before, and much improved
by polishing. Driving at night with the top up is much less scary
now (though I still prefer the top down if it's not pouring rain.)

There are probably auto specific products for this as well, but
I imagine that they all boil down to a fine abrasive. I recently saw
a review of CD repair compounds, and the best of them was about
equal to Brasso (except cost, which was about 100 times more).

On the daily driver thread, I am pleased to report that my spit
has been my only functional car for over a year now and performed
admirably. Of course I work from home a lot, so this isn't a totally
fair comparison to people with long daily drives ;-)
