As a basic scanner, I have an older version of this:

Read and reset codes on several cars. Helped me understand (with
internet research) if the code was something I could resolve or
something the dealer needed to address. Paid about $35, similar to the
above reader. You do have to drill down on menus because there are only
two buttons. Pay $60 and you can get more buttons and a more detailed
display so the reader is likely to be easier to use.
