I think it depends on the clay content of your soil. Soils with high
clay content never seem to finish settling once disturbed, hence the
replaced pavers always sink below those that were left alone.
I have very sandy/gravelly soil which stays rock solid once compacted,
and so pavers are an easy option for my area.

Makes a lot of sense. I will tuck that away in "things to remember one
day".
