My brother's 1860-something house has a space pack system. The air
handling unit is a former servant's bedroom in the attic, and an
incredible number of hoses go off to the other three levels. It works
well, and unless you're looking for them, you don't notice the vents.
I have no idea what it cost, as it was installed before they bought
the house. On the other hand, it would have been impossible to air
conditon the house otherwise.
