reasons not to do it: because it's often the wrong thing to do?
you didn't say why you want to drill, so you get the whole lecture.
folks often drill rotors thinking they'll cool better. actually, they'll
probably cool worse, as you have reduced the mass of the heat sink (that
is, the rotor.)
cooling an existing system is best done using other methods (ducting,
pads with ceramic spacers built in, coatings, etc.)
the reason for drilling is to reduce fade, by providing an escape path for
the gas and particulate matter that comes off the pads in hard braking.
there are two better solutions:
groving the rotor
groving the pad
for the rotor, consider two parallel groves tangential to the inside radius
of the swept surface, one on either side of the center "hat".
for the pad, a vertical groove in the middle of the pad.
drilling vented rotors is particularly problematic, don't even think
about it unless you are an expert as you can severely compromise the
structural integrity of the rotor.
