 While the trench(es) are open, throw in a few runs of twisted pair in
case you want to run an intercom, burglar or fire alarm, remote light
switches, LAN extension, or whatever.  Wire is plenty cheap compared to
the hassle of digging a trench again.

Some PVC pipe (with a nylon or poly cord threaded through it) would be a =
good idea as well.  Could serve for conduit or water (take out the pull =
rope first!).  And if running twisted pair wiring directly buried I'd =
recommend getting the UG grade; it is gel filled and will keep water =
from wicking up the cable.

. . .  For some reason there's never enough dirt to fill a hole back =
up.  I
haven't quite figured that one out yet.

The reason there is never enough dirt to fill a hole back up is that =
quite a lot of it gets into your clothes and onto the wall near the =
lightswitch.
