If you can start a carb'ed motor cold with no choke in a colder
climate...then you have too rich of an idle mixture anyway. Actaully,
I'd say thats true even in less cold climates.  Why it changed, I wouldn't
guess.  Being too rich may not be as bad as being too lean, but its
still not good.  Sounds to me like you need to have the carb adjusted...
and get an automatic choke  :)
