Don't know if this helps,  but a few years back, I too ran into the 
same problem, lock on the passengers side. I don't know if it's true 
for AD trucks, but on my 56, I just swapped sides with the handles. 
The hardest part of the whole swap, was driving around town, 
looking for a clutchhead screwdriver. Hope that helps,Greg
