I used Epoxy _varnish_ when building a wooden aircraft. These are subject
to condensation inside the sealed fabric-covered structures, and sometimes
the water doesn't get an opportunity to dry out for weeks -- planes don't
get used as often as cars, typically, and hangars aren't likely to give as
good weather protection as the typical attached garage. As you can imagine,
the possibility of rot is pretty serious in aircraft. There's not a lot of
"extra" in airframes so as to save weight, so you can't really afford to
lose any strength to rot. At any rate, the Epoxy varnish is incredibly
tough stuff. It soaks into wood well, has excellent resistance to moisture,
ultraviolet light, and solvents -- MEK won't begin to dissolve it.
This is an interesting thread regarding the glue itself and the fact that a
rigid structure will self-destruct. I wonder if 3-wheelers can be glued up
solid since there are only three points of contact with the road, and the
frame theoretically wouldn't have as much tortional stress put on it.
