Michael,
This is a tough one! Depends where you park it for an extended time and
what you want to need to protect the car against.
Theft: easiest is probably a fuel shut-off switch. A thief may start it,
but won't get very far. The advantage of this type of anti-theft device is
that the car most likely ends up in a location where it will draw attention
and that's the last thing a thief wants. I agree that a "Club" type device
will not deter a serious thief and will result in a stolen car and a damaged
steering wheel (or worse). My '52 +4 has a steering wheel that is attached
to the splined end of the steering column with a large nut. If you have a
similar setup, you could remove the steering wheel and hope that the thief
doesn't have a Visegrip that he can use to steer the car.
Vandalism: don't know if there is an answer for that, other than parking the
car in a well lit place. I know of somebody whose cousin owned a
convertible in Rome, Italy. After three slashed tops, he gave up and bought
a non-convertible.
