I say again - for the benefit of others if nothing else - that one does =
not 'fill it full' of oil, no more than the quantities listed below, or =
you will burst the gaiters.  And it should be differential oil, i.e. =
GL5, not gear oil GL4.

been to put one boot on the used rack, stand it up on end, and fill it =
full of 90W140 gear oil then put the other boot on.  We will take =
Moss=E2=80=99s word that the new rack is =E2=80=98greased for =

  Early racks did have an oiler fitting that looked like a grease =
fitting, the majority didn't.  Replacement racks these days tend to come =
ready greased not oiled, said to be for 'life'.  Not 'filled' as such, =
only 1/3rd Imperial pint, 0.19 litres or 0.39 US pint, it's almost =
impossible to keep the oil in them anyway.  Cable ties may not be =
concourse but are perfectly acceptable for normal use ... and they don't =
rust.
