Whether ported or manifold vacuum is immaterial off-idle, other than that
the distributor serial No. i.e. centrifugal and vacuum curves were chosen to
match the rest of the engine specs although emissions was the prime-mover.
Fitting an earlier spec distributor may help, but you may find you get
pinking in some parts of the curve and loss of performance in others. Other
than that spend a lot of time on a rolling road determining the best needle
profiles and curves for your installation.
