A new series just ended on Carleton TV here in the UK, called
"the Uninvited". It is a Sci-Fi drama set in the present where all
of the key industral and political leaders in the word have had
their bodies taken over by smog-breathing aliens, who want to
push the world that one-last-small-step required to make it the
perfect environment for themselves.
The main hero character drives a rubber-bumper MGB-GT, which is
often seen - even interior shots. I suppose one can tell it is
science fiction because he manages to outrun modern Vauxhall
police cars. (ha ha)
In other news, after seeing so many posts on various starting/
idling/breakdown/etc. problems, I would just like to report that
the 72 B-GT that I purchased as my US car (I work at Tanglewood in
MA every summer) was a reliable servant for the entire summer.
Yes, it needed new tires, a new battery, and I decided upon a new
fuel tank for safety's sake, but these needs were reflected in the
purchase price. I had only a week to get the car registered and get
to know the car before setting out on a 600-mile drive from Ohio to
Massachussets at the beginning of the summer. In retrospect, this
seems a rather silly thing to do; but I must say that the car did
not let me down.
While the car rests in a nice warm garage in Ohio I have all winter
in England to ponder how much work to put into a very worn car that
has nevertheless been very kind to me. I am concerned about the
condition of the side-members (high-pressure water hose revealed what
was under the lovely undercoating). I am torn between the don't-fix-what-
ain't-broke approach and the desire to turn this beautiful-looking car
into a really nice handling and running car. Ah well...
