Jim,

        It refers to the particular aluminum alloy of which the piston is
made.  An excess of silicon, the main alloying element, is used.  The
excess silicon "precipitates" out and adds very desirable wear
characteristics to the piston.  There is an excellent description of the
process on the Silvolite website.  try http://www.kb-silvolite.com/ .  Also
lots of good detailed piston information there.
