I enter my TD in antique car shows and they examine the undercarriage
carefully deducting points for everything including cleanliness. They
look for every little thing to deduct a point for. If you want to win
a show, paint it as original. If you want to show, cleanliness is
important but don't undercoat.
Use a really good urethane with hardner and paint in every crack and
crevice to stop oxidation. I wouldn't undercoat any T car but keep it
clean, out of the rain and snow (expecially salt).
Also, wax works great! spray it on liberally to your underside and then
tar and gunk comes off for the show. If you take care of the car and
keep it out of the rain and salt, you won't have trouble with rust.
