I need some advice on PA-0531. The car is making a "clanking" noise when the
starter is engaged. Sounds like a loose flywheel to me. Seems to be OK with
the engine running. I removed the starter motor and all seemed OK on it so I
re-installed it. No change in "clanking" noise. I could not determine any
looseness on the flywheel through the starter aperature. Any suggestions as
to what the noise might be? I fear a loose flywheel or crankshaft flange as
the last person to work on the engine rebuild is a known "under-tightener"
of nuts and bolts. Help!!

The gearbox is also noisy, sounds like somebody threw in a handfull of
nails. So I may have to rebuild it. Can I remove the gearbox from the car
without removing the engine? That would allow access to the clutch and
flywheel at the same time.

Sorry if these questions are a bit basic but I am new to MMM cars ( but
prepared to learn ).
Thanks for any help.
