The problem wasn't the guy who designed the engine, but the Government that
set up a car taxation rate scaled on the bore size, rather than the swept
volume. This made it economically desirable to create engines with min bore
and max stroke, so as to minimise the annual registration charge.

As a result the bigends won't go down the bore, and the pistons won't go
past the crank! This makes it a bit fiddly to assemblethe pistons/rods, but
is the least of the problems associated with building that style of engine.
