Peter,
That is pretty conclusive and even eliminates the possible error in printing
the wiring diagram.
Thank you for your input.

  Pip,

John James is correct. I have gone one better than him and have looked at
the wiring diagrams in original Instruction Manuals.

The J type and L type manuals clearly show the battery terminals marked with
+ and - ( Positive and Negative) and the negative goes to earth.

The P type and N type manuals do not have the battery terminals marked BUT
the accessory plug on the octagonal switch panel is clearly marked + and - and
if you follow the wires back to the battery the + wire goes to the terminal
that does not go to earth.

  Peter Green.

    Brian,

    The messages, below, are interesting.

My P-type manual is 2000 klms away with my son & the car. I do have J3/4,
L,
    K3 & N Manual here. Sure wish I had an R-type manual.

How do I tell from the wiring diagram, if it is negative or positive
earth.
From memory, the P-type wiring diagram does not show what colour cable
was
used from battery to front of car.

Anyhow, it is an interesting subject

    Thanks

If you check the wiring diagrams for the MMM cars you will see that they
were
    negative ground from the begaining.
