I have just restored my PA dashboard and had the same problem as you.
And you are correct when you write of the problems of obtaining sequoia.
I used some redwood burl veneer, which is as near as you can get to=20
sequoia. I obtained mine from a company called EV Exports, who have a=20
warehouse in Wooburn Green, near Bourne End. Bucks. Tel. 01628 850066 =20
They were able to produce a bookmatched pair of veneers for which I=20
paid =A320 cash and I am sure that they will be able to sort you our with=
s
ome fragments for a few coppers.
Incidentally I had the veneer bonded to a new piece of marine ply by a=20
firm in High Wycombe (centre of the furniture industry, don't you know)=20
called Proline (contact there is a very helpful chap called Grant=20
Hopkins). This cost another =A320
When I sought advice as to the best method of varnishing the complete=20
dashboard, the answer was to use a cellulose-based melamine varnish. =20
This can be as shiny or matt as you choose, depending on whether you=20
spray it, brush it, and whether you flat it back with wire wool. It is=20
waterproof, heatproof and the result is excellent!

My PA has an original dashboard in good condition. Trouble is that it=20

few odd things in it which I would like to remove. When this is done I=20

obviously have holes to fill. Sequoia, the wood from which the dash=20
veneer
is made, was made an endangered species in 1935 (which is why PB dashes=20
use
burr walnut). SO, I am going to have my work cut out finding matching=20
wood
to fill the holes...
Does anyone have a discarded, scrap original dash from a PA (or an NA,=20
as I
think these used the same veneer) which might have a few salvagable=20
bits? Or
does anyone know someone who might??
I am also on the look out for an original 'rhombic' panel in okay to=20
good
condition, and original M.G. Car Company threshold plates (condition=20
not too
important). Are you, or do you know of, a concours person who might have
consigned these shabby items to a box under the bench??
Oh, and longest shot of all - might the same concours restorer have
discarded original apple green rexine-covered door panels, and the trim
panels that go in front of and below the doors of a P-type??? If so, I'd
love to give them a good home!
